About me
Since moving to the North East, Joe Steels continues to establish himself as an exciting guitarist on the jazz scene. He plays with a deep consideration of the tradition, mixed with innovation and a strong melodic sense. He draws inspiration from his love of the people and places around him.
Joe has performed across the UK with British jazz greats such as Arnie Somogyi, Ross Stanley, and Andy Panayi. He has performed at the ‘Love Supreme’, Newcastle Jazz Festival, and many other venues. Joe currently leads his own project, described by Nikki Iles as ‘Wonderful!’. Joe released his second album ‘A Blue Patch’ in February ‘26, and was described by Bebop Spoken Here as “contemporary guitar playing at its best”. The title track was also featured on Radio 3’s ‘Round Midnight show.
